Sunset over the Oasis

Our Hotel on Dakhla was the Desert Lodge, a mud brick group of well thought out buildings on top of a ridge. It looked out over the Oasis below, but being mud brick was not ostentatious, but blended with the rock face it grew up from, & those further back behind. This Hotel was the brain child of a Swiss woman, who had clearly introduced ecological principals to her employees & management staff! It was the first time in Egypt we had seen separate bins for plastics, glass or paper! We were quite excited to have our second hotel room with a domed ceiling! the room also had a balcony from where the sunset could be watched, although we chose to do so from the rooftop terrace instead. Stunning! The site also had a natural spring hot pool, but with the cold wind whipping around us as we explored...it wasn't hot enough, so we abstained, choosing instead, to later partake of peppermint tea in the bedouin tent with the staff who were smoking shisha!
