GLIDING DOWN THE NILE...IN STYLE
I don't know where your computer is located as you read this, but the ipad & I are in the open air, under an awning of canvas, looking out at the rushes that line the banks of the Nile. The water is like glass, it is EXQUISITELY peaceful & although we haven't enough wind to use the sills & have to be towed...life is pretty darn good at the moment! We are on board the Meroe, a Dahibeyeh. Bigger & more comfy than a felucca, but massively smaller than the steamboats that USED to ply the Niles waters. (They are mostly all in dock on the Luxor banks...not enough tourists to keep them running!) There are 10 of us on board & we are the only English speakers, all the other guests are...French! We have been given a room at the very back of the boat with large windows & the view is...SUBLIME! It is such a pleasure to be able to relax, finally in some quiet. The big question is...will we be awoken, as we have been until now...by the sunrise Mezzuein calling the faithful to prayer????
