Pyramid variation
The Bent pyramid at Dashur is indeed a sight to behold! It is considered to be Egypts first proper pyramid, because prior to this one being built (for King Sneferu, father of Khufu for whom the great pyramid at Giza was built) they were all stepped! The lesser shared fact about this pyramid is that IT, unlike the ones at Saqqara, nor the red pyramid, HAS a lot of it's outer casing stones still in place, so you can see how it would have looked SMOOTH! What I hadn't realized, was that the capping stone at the top was originally covered in alabaster. Just imagine how that would have radiated in the sunlight! We had a wonderful walk around the base, disregarding the sand that insistently crept into my shoes. This is a big pyramid & we were lucky to get up on the base rocks & run our hands over the surface of the stone. Oooooo goosebumpey! It was a perfect end to our pyramid experience.
